The actor and director Robert Redford has had a nature conservancy in Southern California named after him.

Speaking to the media regarding The Robert Redford Conservancy for Southern California Sustainability at Pitzer College, the well-known environmentalist expressed his fears regarding the push for growth in the Los Angeles area and how this has had an impact on the local environment. He described how the uncontrolled greed and development in the city had pushed his environmental advocacy.

The actor believes that the entertainment industry has a role to play influencing government policy and he can do this through his involvement in the conservancy and via his Sundance Film Festival, which will seek to inform people by entertaining them.

Students will be able to attend the conservancy, which will be a research and education facility, from the Autumn of 2014.
