Information emerging from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) last month revealed that almost half a million 50 kilowatt or smaller solar panel installations have been carried out in the UK. This is an average of around 1900 installation each week over just the past 12 months.

The government have stated that they have a goal of reaching one million installations by 2015, a target which certainly seems possible, given these figures. In fact, Greg Barker from the DECC has said that the UK could soon be generating 3GW of energy from solar – more than any other country in Europe and right up there with the rest of the world.

The Solar Trade Association have stated that the actual total could be even higher than this as these installations refer only to those installed under the Feed-in-tariff scheme since 2010. They also point out that the public back solar power according to recent polls.
